UNSCDF2 Chapter 6- Police Officers and SWAT

San Francisco, California, USA
UNSC San Francisco Outpost
April 5, 2001
1130 Local Time

Sarah looked at her watch with a smirk. Not seeing her husband for a few days was getting into her head. She had to keep herself constantly busy so that her focus was on something else. Sarah decided to visit her police buddies she had made during her stay at the Outpost. She walked down a hall and entered a cozy room.
“Morning Sarah.” an elder man with tanned skin greeted her.
“Good morning Officer Patrick.” Sarah smiled.
“What can I do for you?” Patrick offered.
Officer Patrick reminded Sarah of Officer Taylor White who had fallen to the infected back in Australia. Even though Patrick was a lot older, his personality seemed quite a match.
“Anything going on with the police?” Sarah asked.
“Well, since you asked, I think we may have something.” Patrick knocked on a door beside him.
“Come on in.” a woman shouted from behind the door.
Patrick opened the door to reveal a short brunette staring at a computer.
“Oh hi Sarah.” the woman turned her head towards the door.
            “Hello, Officer Fisher.” Sarah greeted.
“Why don’t you ask Fisher?” Patrick nudged Sarah.
            “Alright.” Sarah grinned.
“Ask me what?” Fisher turned around her seat and looked at Sarah with a raised eyebrow.
“Well, any action going on?” Sarah asked.
“Just one today. Since the UNSC has been busy with fighting the infected, our SWAT team is out looking for survivors in the vicinity.” Fisher tapped her monitor.
            “Sounds exciting.” Sarah’s eyes widened.
“Well, it’s pretty routine for them.” Fisher replied.
“Think I can learn from them?” Sarah asked as she remembered Cookson’s suggestion.
“Sure, I don’t see why not. After all, you have a police background.” Fisher responded with a smile.
“Sounds great. When are they back?” Sarah looked at the computer.
“Well, they should have been back half an hour ago.” Fisher looked at her watch.
“Give them a call.” Patrick suggested.
Fisher nodded and walked to a table behind her. She grabbed a radio and turned towards the computer.
“Fields, this is Fisher, do you read?” Fisher spoke on the radio.
After a few minutes of waiting, Fisher got no response.
            “Try again.” Patrick urged.
“Fields from SWAT, do you copy, over?” Fisher repeated.
            “Everything alright?” Sarah looked concerned.
“They should at least respond back.” Fisher looked at the computer.
“When was the last time we made contact with them?” Patrick asked.
“It was…an hour ago. They said they were passing the Golden Gate Bridge to look around.” Fisher looked at the computer.
“I’m guessing it must be the interference or they walked out of range.” Patrick guessed.
“I think someone should go check it out.” Sarah suggested.
“I agree with Sarah. Had it been a normal day with no zombies, I would assume that. In reality, it’s not, so I would want to take precaution.” Fisher spoke her thoughts.
“Very well, I’ll get the UNSC notified of their last known position.” Patrick sighed.
“I’m coming with you.” Sarah patted Patrick’s back.
            “Good luck.” Fisher wished.
Patrick and Sarah left the room and walked to a nearby building. The pair was greeted by a receptionist who took down their information about their SWAT. Then they were told to grab a seat until an officer from the UNSC was available. Sarah watched as time passed by slowly and sat with a blank face. Suddenly, she saw a young officer dressed in battle attire entering the building. He glanced at Patrick and then Sarah and knocked at an office door. The door opened and a bald man who seemed to be in his late thirties greeted the officer. They had a short conversation until the bald man noticed Patrick and Sarah sitting on their seats.
“First Lieutenant Baker of the UNSC. I heard your SWAT is lost?” the bald man asked Patrick.
“Yes sir. We’re wondering if you could locate them.” Patrick stood up.
The young officer walked beside Baker and listened attentively. Sarah noticed the young officer looking at her with a hidden smile and felt a bit uncomfortable.
“I understand that your team is important, but all our forces are on the battlefield. Next available unit will be an hour or so minimum.” Baker explained.
Sarah studied the young officer while he was looking at Patrick. He had the name “Reid” stenciled on his flak jacket and he seemed to have some fatigue shown in his eyes.
“One hour minimum?” Patrick widened his eyes.
“That’s just being optimistic.” Baker shrugged.
“Baker, Hornet Squadron can do it.” Reid interrupted.
“You just got back from a three day mission. Your men need the rest.” Baker spoke with a laugh.
“How many people are we looking for?” Reid asked Patrick and then looked at Sarah.
            “Just three.” Patrick replied.
“Three for a SWAT team sounds a bit small.” Reid laughed.
“Well, it’s the last active police force we still have kicking here.” Patrick replied.
“Baker, I’ll just grab two of my men and take a troop transport Warthog.” Reid smiled at Baker.
“Suit yourself then, don’t tell the Captain that I didn’t give you your rest.” Baker replied.
            “I won’t.” Reid laughed.
Baker looked at Patrick and Sarah with a sly smile.
“Looks like it’s your lucky day.” Baker walked back to his office.
“Thank you sir. We really appreciate it.” Patrick thanked.
“Not at all.” Reid looked at Patrick and smiled at Sarah.
            “What’s your name?” Patrick asked.
“Second Lieutenant Daniel Reid of Hornet Squadron at your service.” Reid bowed.
Sarah was beginning to sense that Reid was totally hitting on her and decided to tell him to back off in a discreet way.
“I’m Officer Patrick.” Patrick stuck out his hand in appreciation.
Sarah used her left hand to brush her hair purposely to reveal the ring on her finger as Reid looked at her.
“I’m Officer Parks.” Sarah stuck her right hand.
“Nice to meet you.” Reid shook her hand.
The look Reid had on his face was no longer there. Sarah could sense the disappointment from his eyes and his body language after he saw her ring. Sarah giggled silently as she felt satisfied and victorious from her actions. She was married and she wasn’t going to betray her husband.
“I’ll get your SWAT back.” Reid spoke seriously and left the building.
