Day 101

Day 101
Thur. Dec. 19, 2013

Last day here at Waterloo and my last post of Term 1. I woke up early this morning doing my laundry and finalizing my house cleanup. My roommate was back and he was cleaning up even though he had overstayed his allowed intended period after exams. The house was clean and I made preparations in packing for my flight back.

For lunch, I went to Pi Market and bought my items for my winter term and went to their International Eatery. The master chef greeted me and remembered me from last time and struck a friendly conversation with me. After that remarkable customer service, I decided to buy my lunch there instead of Burger King where I had coupons. The service at Pi Market is exemplary and should be recognized as creating a customer-friendly atmosphere.

Now, the Greyhound bus to Toronto where I need to take a flight later on tomorrow was oversold. The overload of passengers resulted in delays for the other passengers due to waiting for another bus and traffic accidents on the freeways was a pain as well. In the end, I was delayed for nearly 45 minutes and then I met my brother in downtown Toronto. My brother cooked me dinner and fed me so much food that for the first time in Term 1... I felt so full eating food at residence. Tomorrow is going to be a long day and early flight tomorrow. 6 hour connecting flight with Calgary as a mid-stop.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! It would probably be January 4th for the next log at Waterloo University. Signing off for Term 1 of 2013...

Day 100

Day 100
Wed. Dec. 18, 2013

100th day milestone! The whole majority of the day was spent on reviewing the materials for VCULT100. Lots of readings and films that were discussed in class. The exam was harder in the multiple choice as there were 5 choices each looking very similar. For the essay part, I feel like I only did a satisfactory essay due to the complexity in describing a film and relating it to film forms and cultures.

Anyways, I have to say that moment when I are the last guy to ship out tomorrow and one of my roommates host a friend over for hotpot lunch on his last day today… First, his friend wears his snow/mud covered boots and walk over cleaned and mopped common areas that me and another roommate has cleaned. Second, the roommate leaves his hotpot on the stove and doesn't store in the fridge and finally, the roommate doesn't come home to clean up the friend's mess, his assigned cleaning section, and store his food.

Just when I think university stress is over for now…here comes residence stress. Almost feels like I'm taking care of my own children in the house. Fabulous experience here at ResLife!

Day 99

Day 99
Tues. Dec. 17, 2013

One more day before the VCULT100 final and one more day before it reaches Day 100. Today was an intensive studying and reading of VCULT100 materials as I focused on the parts of essay question and presentation definitions. Lots of hard studying made me want to get out.

I went to the campus today to buy my Greyhound ticket for a trip to Toronto. I must say, the girl who provided me the service appeared to be very unfriendly and uninterested in her job. I'm not sure if this is a symptom I'm starting to pick up about the level of service here at Waterloo, but I have to say that I'm not impressed. If you don't like the job, don't carry the attitude as it's very contagious.

That being said, any day that goes south can be fixed by talking to my girlfriend who has the patience and understanding to listen to my problems.

Two of my roommates ship out today and one of them will be dropping out of university as I had mentioned earlier. So sum it up, me and one more roommate left before this place is empty.

Day 98

Day 98
Mon. Dec. 16, 2013

As I am going to make my way back to BC this Christmas, I plan on doing my laundry on the last day of leaving Waterloo so that I won't have any clothes left in the hamper.

Time to get serious now with VCULT100 studying. I read over the required readings and glanced over the exam prep questions. Two essays and 20 multiple choice answers seem to be alright, but I'm seeing my friends stress out already. Not a good sign especially when I need to write two essays about two particular films we screened.

Later the night, I played True or Dare with my girlfriend on Skype and I realized how cheeky she was. Note to self...always go for truth.

Day 97

Day 97
Sun. Dec. 15, 2013

Almost nearing day 100! I will stop once I depart Waterloo as this blog is strictly logging my university life here at Waterloo.

The majority of the day was spent on video Skyping my girlfriend and watching movies instead of reading over notes of VCULT100 final exam on Wednesday. I did however glance a bit at my written notes and then went on relaxing and enjoying the day.

Nothing interesting to log on a snowy day as I stayed indoors...

Day 96

Day 96
Sat. Dec. 14, 2013

The final weekend for Term 1 and I must say it has been quite a journey thus far. As I wrap up an online critique for GBDA101, I noticed that there were a lot of good animations worthy in beating us to the cash prize. Oh well, we did the best we could and that's all that matters.

Later the night I ordered pizza from Twice the Deal and I must say I've become their frequent customers. I've get my orders within twenty minutes with no delay and good hot pizza to my liking.

The remainder of the night, I play poker with some friends my roommates had brought home. One of them was a couple which reminded me of my and my girlfriend. How adorable!

Day 95

Day 95
Fri. Dec. 13, 2013

Friday the 13th! As if bad luck was going to happen today, the day went by pretty smoothly as I still have my heat and hot water. I wonder when the day without electricity will arrive. It's bound to happen and I'm sure of it according to Murphy's Law which states that anything can go wrong.

The majority of the day was me Skyping and texting my girlfriend as we discussed about our summer plans to meet. The places we will be going and the things that we plan to do. One thing for sure, lots of photos for ever-lasting memories. Oh, the future seems so bright and happy!

Day 94

Day 94
Thur. Dec. 12, 2013

The hot water is finally back before lunch which means I had a full day with no hot water. The moment I had hot water, I quickly dashed into the shower to warm my body up. As I blog and write, I can not help by stare outside and see the snow accumulate.

Day by day, I feel confined inside this residence due to the snow and lack of motivation to go out. As a result, I continue on gaming and watching videos on my laptop killing time when I should be studying. Like I said, I plan to this weekend to get the job done for my last final exam on the Wednesday.

Day 93

Day 93
Wed. Dec. 11, 2013

What really amazes me is this residence...no hot water again for the second time. So to total things up, two no hot water, one no heat, and two no water incidents. One would think that the university has properly maintained the facilties to ensure students have a good place to live on campus. The response time could be roughly one full day without the resources depending on the circumstances. I'm starting to wonder if residence is even reliable and worth my money now…

Honest confession, I think I'm procastinating my last final exam studying. I will look into it this weekend as I am following up on Star Wars The Clone Wars TV shows since I haven't picked up after Season 1. Lots of good animation and intensive action keeps me interested for more.

Day 92

Day 92
Tues. Dec. 10, 2013

Another snow-filled day here at Waterloo and it's time for my weekly laundry despite having nothing too much. So I decided to change bed sheets, pillows, etc and increase the load.

I went out today with my friend to some game testing on campus and was immediately bored. The reason why I left early was that the rules were too complicated and my girlfriend wanted to talk to me on Skype.

I did my weekly grocery shopping and went home to relax for the remainder of the day.

Day 91

Day 91
Mon. Dec. 9, 2013

Laundry Mondays? No, not today as the place was covered with snow and I didn't have too much clothes accumulated in my basket.

These past few days I've just been sitting in my residence staring at the wall or staring at my computer. I know I should be studying for the last final exam, but I needed a brief escape from all of this. That feeling of freedom and being carefree was missed.

As I look back and reflect on this university decision that I made, I'm not quite sure if I can see myself with a career out of it. After all, it's why I'm here...to upgrade education to find a better job. More thought needed.

Day 90

Day 90
Sun. Dec. 8, 2013

It's Day 90 and almost reaching the 100th day mark! Incredible to be continuously writing each daily event down to log.

Last night I slept really late so I woke up at noon. I have a feeling it was going to be another fun and relaxing day I can chill.

Most of the day was spent on the computer watching cool movies that I haven't watched. Perhaps I can use them for VCULT100 final? I have no idea, but after that class, I see film a bit differently.

Day 89

Day 89
Sat. Dec. 7, 2013

Today was a day where I can fully sleep in and enjoy my time to recover all my missing sleep. I must admit, getting all the hours of sleep is excellent and really clears my mind up.

The majority of the day I spent it on watching old movies that were classics and playing computer games with my friends.

The reminder of the night was an intensive poker tournament that lasted five rounds in which I had won three. Each of our roommate brought a specific red wine to share and it turns out that my Australian red wine was better. Perhaps I like Aussie wine and that's why I have a perference. Might party late tonight...enjoy while I can right?

Day 88

Day 88
Fri. Dec. 6, 2013

One more assignment to hand in today for GBDA101 and I'm officially finished with school...minus the last final exam. The animation was completed on time and rendered with expertise by one of our skill teammates. I'm impressed that we did the project without any cuts to the animation storyboard.

Later the day, me and my roommate player poker and I won the majority of rounds once again. Tomorrow we expect to have a bigger and more fun-fllled poker tournament filled with drinks...if you know what I mean.

Time to relax!

Day 87

Day 87
Thur. Dec. 5, 2013

I woke up today extremely early as my ENGL100A exam starts at 9. Not sure what to say, but I saw a lot of my missing classmates show up on this exam day. Skippers or legit excuse, I really have no comment. What bugs me is that people pay money to go to school and missing classes means blowing your money. Anyways, the exam included four essays in total in a two and a half time period. I wrote two booklets of exams and left 45 minutes early because I was ready and prepared.

Next, I went to a meeting for GBDA101 to finish rendering our animation. A lot of big files were created and we were having issues rendering it out. Hopefully we will get it completed by tomorrow.

Since first exam is over, I'm going to take a break officially after tomorrow to relieve my stress.

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Day 86

Day 86
Wed. Dec. 4, 2013

ENGL100A final exam tomorrow! I spent the majority of the day studying the novel and parts of the exam question. I also told one of my roommates who never sleeps at night and makes loud noises to be quiet as I want to have quality sleep before the exam.

Speaking of which, this roommate is an engineer who has decided to drop out of university because it was too impractical. However, he doesn't understand the concept that the remaining three of us is still in it for the university. I could go on one of my rants, but I chose not to.

Anyways, I did my video Skype with my girlfriend and then decided to call it a night real early as I have an exam in the morning.

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

Day 85

Day 85
Tues. Dec. 3, 2013

Literally nothing happened today like water outage, but a boring day at home playing computer games and studying for finals. The only thing I'm stressed at the moment is my GBDA101 project where I have difficulty with After Effects. Trying to figure out how things work is rather amusing by trial and error.

Other than that, the highlight of the day was when I video Skyped my girlfriend. It has been a while and I missed seeing her. This one will be a short and sweet post and I'll end it as is.

Monday, December 2, 2013

Day 84

Day 84
Mon. Dec. 2, 2013

Just when you think the water is back and you can do laundry today for my laundry Mondays...it stopped again. This time a water main had broke and we were out of water for another 5 or so hours. Luckily, yesterday's preparation of backup water was handy as I had clean water to wash my hands and drink as well. Emergency preparedness to the max! So laundry Mondays have to be postponed.

Today I brought all my roommates together and we played poker. I came in third last, but that was not the point as it was hard to get the four of us together to socialize. Then we head out to eat at a resturant where I had my belated birthday celebration. There was good food and a good looking waitress which one of my roommate was hitting on.

Also for today, my girlfriend wanted to make our relationship official in public as she asked me to put our status up on Facebook. The funny thing is...I had more like on that status than my birthday status. Funny how the world works eh?

Day 83

Day 83
Sun. Dec. 1, 2013

My Birthday! The first person to send me their wishes was my girlfriend before my parents...how awesome is that? Anyways, as I should be celebrating on this occasion, I sit in my residence without water. Yes...I said without water. The residence area had water issues and I was left with over 5 hours of no water. First it was no heat and hot water, not no water at all. Absolutely ridiculous!

Once water was restored, I immediately filled all my water jugs and water filters. As an emergency preparedness for next time, I grabbed my empty 2L pop bottle and filled it to the max and place it aside into my closet as my emergency supply. Sometimes I feel living all by myself is like living in a post-apocalyptic world. No water, no heat…nothing.

Anyways, as I celebrated remotely without any parties for this occasion, I spent the majority of the day talking to my girlfriend. That's all I could ever wish for...being with her.
