VC Chapter 19-Belly of the Beast

Sector 1400
Planet 1411
January 22, 2052

Charlie looked at the tactical readouts inside his helmet as he rapidly descended towards the hangar bay. As he dropped down in a constant velocity, plasma chargers were flying all over the space attempting to hit at the fleeing Talon frigates. He watched as one of Chase's men got hit by the charger and exploded into bits.
“Watch yourselves.” Charlie spoke in his communications piece inside his helmet.
“This is suicide!” Matthew hollered.
As the group reached 100 metres away from the hangar bay, their jetpacks automatically activated and slowed the drop rate. One by one, the soldiers and pirates quickly and safely landed on the bay without being spotted.
“I am never doing that again.” Matthew breathed relief.
“Here's the game plan folks.” Charlie pulled out his datapad from his utility belt.
“I like games...” Chase smiled as he looked the NB fleets retreating from the facility.
“Commander Jaimes will go with Chase's team and secure a fleet to escape while Jaimes' team and I will hunt for the blueprints.” Charlie waved his commands.
“Yes sir.” Jaimes saluted as he directed his men to gather round Charlie.
“What kinds of ships should we steal and fly out of this facility?” Chase asked.
“Anything that gets us out in one piece. You are pirates after all...” Charlie shrugged.
“Damn right we are.” Chase crossed his arms proudly.
“Let's get the job done gentlemen!” Charlie waved at his team towards the first airlock.
Charlie and his team of four quickly began cracking the door open through a series of console bypasses. Once the door was open, they hurried and disappeared into the corridor.
“Well, let's try that door.” Chase pointed at another airlock opposite to them.
Before they could even bypass the door, a group of security guards unlocked the door and rushed in with pulse laser rifles.
“Get cover!” Jaimes shouted as he ducked for the nearest supply crate marked “Zynthium”.
The group of security guards quickly took out one of Chase's men as he was too late to get into cover. Jaimes aimed his pulse ray rifle and fired a clean shot into the guard's head dropping him to the ground instantly.
“We need to move.” Chase sprayed his gun wildly in the air.
“More incoming!” Jaimes shouted as he saw another team of guards runnings towards them.
“We haven't even started yet!” Badyr whined as laser rounds whizzed over his head.
“Get to that open airlock Charlie opened. I'll provide cover fire.” Jaimes shouted.
“You heard the man! Move it!” Chase shouted as he mad a mad dash for the exit.
Jaimes got out of his cover and fired simultaneous shots with his rifle and pistol to create a distraction as Chase and his team got inside the open airlock.
“We got you!” Chase shouted.

“Run!” Matthew hollered on the top of his lungs as his team opened a heavy suppressive fire at the guards pinning Jaimes down.

VC Chapter 18-Drop Troopers

Sector 1400
Planet 1411
January 22, 2052

“We're nearing the drop zone Charlie.” Wicker looked at the targeting computer on the battle screen.
“Ready to do this Commander Jaimes?” Charlie looked at a young Caucasian man with a moustache dressed in full space combat gear.
“Always.” Jaimes cocked his pulse ray rifle and slung it over his back.
“Approaching drop in two minutes.” Wicker looked out the window and saw the Talon next to him beginning to smoke as an explosive round splashed at its shields.
“Let's get going Chase. Your men ready?” Charlie looked at the pirate Captain with uncertainty.
“I guess so. We don't do drops in particular. We specialize in piracy.” Chase waved at his group of five pirates which included Badyr and Matthew.
“You know Wicker, we're not even yet.” Chase flashed a grin as he led his men out of the bridge.
“Stop fighting each other. We both have common enemies and we need to use your combined skills and force to beat them.” Charlie reminded as he patted Chase's back.
The group of soldiers went to the loading bay hatch and grabbed onto a railing to secure themselves into position as the ship shook from the incoming fire.
“Opening bay doors for drop.” Wicker announced on the speakers as the hatch slowly slid open while keeping the shielding active.
Charlie looked at Chase's team and then looked at Jaimes' team of four wielding pulse laser assault rifles. He smiled in satisfaction as he saw the facility slowly beginning to appear underneath the ship.
“ETA in 30 seconds.” Wicker announced as the Talon slowly levelled its way into its final drop approach path.
“Stay frosty. Calculated boots down in 20 seconds after drop.” Charlie grabbed his combat helmet and put it over his head.
“Copy that sir.” Jaimes nodded as he looked at his men to prepare for the drop.
“Why is the shield still on?” Matthew pointed at the red glow covering the open hatch.
“When the green light lights up, the shields on the Talon will drop allowing us to make the jump.” Jaimes pointed at the red light beside a dimmed green light.
“That's great.” Matthew looked at the steep drop.
“Don't worry, you'll be fine. I'll jump last.” Jaimes chuckled as he tapped Matthew's shoulders.
“Ten seconds.” Wicker broadcasted.
“Load and load gentlemen.” Charlie slid his laser pistol into his holster and turned his head to look at the lights.
“Four...three...two...one. Go go go!” Wicker announced.
The red light flickered off and the green light lit up. The shields turned off and Charlie was the first one to run and jump off the ship towards the open hangar bay below. Jaimes' men quickly followed in Charlie's steps and jumped out of the ship.

“Let's go get them.” Chase waved at his men as he jumped out of the Talon gracefully.

VC Chapter 17-Diversionary Fire

Sector 1400
Planet 1411
January 22, 2052

The three Apocrypha cruisers focused fire on the nearest Rancor battleship and zapped it with his thermal beams into space dust. It wasn't a fair fight as the weapons on the Rancors only scratched the paint of the cruisers due to its strong shielding.
“NB Gaven to NB Remali, time to pull out and let the big guys take care of it.” Stein broadcasted on the NB channel.
With only two Rancors left from the retreat, it was certain that a big assault ship was needed to counter the Apocryphas. Once in clear space, NB Gaven and NB Remali warped out of the battle scene as a new warp took place next to them. A Revelation cruiser with five Exodus cruisers emerged from the warp and immediately fired their weapons. The cruiser were loaded with the strongest disruptor rays possible and charged towards the Apocrypha defenders.
“NB Slider, assault force engaging. We won't be able to hold them off long. NB Sharpe make it quick.” Tarbuck sat in his command chair in the bridge of the Revelation cruiser and watched as a beam of hard light hit his dual spectral shields.
“Yes Admiral, we're on our way.” Wicker replied as his fleet of six Talon frigates emerged from warp behind Tarbuck's fleet.
“Focus fire on the closest Apoc!” Tarbuck ordered as he saw Wicker's Talons fly over him.
The assault cruisers focused their concentrated fire on the lead Apocrypha and took out its shock shields leaving the ship open to a steady stream of laser rays. As the Apocryphas retaliated back on the cluster of Exodus cruisers, one shot of concentrated thermal rays nearly annihilated a cruiser as low spectral shields gave in easily.
“Wicker, I can only buy you a certain amount of time for you to make the drop.” Tarbuck broadcasted as he watched one his Exodus cruisers split into two.
“Sir, we lost ship two.” an officer reported as the split Exodus cruiser fell towards the planet's atmosphere.
“At least we can hold out longer with our spectral shields equipped on our fleets.” Tarbuck watched as another Exodus marginally survived after one stream of thermal beams.
“Sir, enemy lead ship is at quarter health!” the weapons officer announced as the lead Apocrypha's hull showed weak hull integrity as the disruptor rays ripped holes in its armour.
“Switch formations. Less shield strengths to the back and full shields to tank the damage.” Tarbuck watched as another Exodus got split into two.

Tarbuck watched as his cruisers changed formation to absorb the incoming fire and continue their non-stop fire at the first Apocrypha. From a distant, Wicker's fleet of Talons flew closer and closer to the facility as it sprayed with plasma chargers. One of the Talon got its engines taken out and crashed into the facility creating a small hole at one of their ship labs. Things weren't looking good for Wicker's fleet as another Talon exploded on its flight path when an explosive round hit its command bridge. A loud explosion occurred next to the Revelation cruiser as another Exodus cruiser got demolished from the three Apocryphas. Time was running out.

Day 203

Day 203
Tues. Apr. 15, 2014

Day 203 will be the last post on my first-year experiences. Guess what the weather is outside today? Snow and more snow! It's feels like a parting gift to remind me of what Waterloo is like.

I woke up really early today and got all my boxes and suitcases shipped out by Store Your Dorm. It's really a fast and convenient service for storing or sending your stuff. Anyways, I went to have my lunch with my roommate at Kabob Hut and it was okay. Mostly rice that fills you up and not the other meats. Would I recommend it? Probably because the customer service was good.

When I went back home, my mum told me that she had a talk with my other roommate about house cleaning. The microwave was messy, kitchen stove greasy, and the garbage bins maxed out. My mum decided to help clean and he just stood their watching. That's when she asked him about house cleaning and responsibilities and was countered by a statement of "studying for final exams". When my mum said it was everyone's responsibility to clean the house, he walked away. Wow, eh?

Anyways, my roommate, my mum, and I went to Beck Hall to drop my keys and then headed for the bus stop. I bid farewell to my friend and then got on the bus to Toronto.

After a few hours of commuting, we've finally arrived at a place to stay and I began writing my final UWaterloo experience essay highlighting notable people. Here is what I've written:

Being here at the University of Waterloo Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) Program was a
memorable and life-changing experience. Despite paying thousands of dollars in education, residence, and textbooks, there were some valuable experiences and networks built through this first-year
experience. I would like to take the time to highlight some of the new experiences, the forging of friends, and the networks built.

Residence Life Notables

One of the first notable person to be recognized is my don Ankit Curchorcar who made the transition from BC to university easier for me by helping us integrate this transition through social events and gatherings. (Thank you for all the guidance and aid you've given me.)

A very important person contributing to university residence life is Jack Vodov, a fun warm-hearted roommate, who's supported me through the tough and easy times during university. (Thanks Jack. Good times during Poker Nights and fine wine nights talking about life and its issues. Remember that 10 year future outlook, let's see it happen! Good luck with your studies and life.)

Residence Life Honourable Mentions

It was unfortunate that our paths didn't cross in Term 2, but I'm sure we will again in the future friend. Remember, your works of art are amazing and don't let grades affect who you are and your abilities.)

The other notable individual is Jay Barrett, a good light-hearted friend, who was in Team Gold and been in most of my GBDA classes and INTST101. (Jay, it's been quite a journey with you in all my classes. We make a great team ever since Team Gold triumphed on frosh week. Day 202

Day 202
Mon. Apr. 14, 2014

ECON101 final exam is today...oh dear. Despite it being late in the afternoon, I spent most of my time packing my materials and arranging them in the boxes with my mum. The funny thing was when my mum started talking about my roommate downstairs and how he leaves a mess in the washroom. Long showers and wet floors and countertops...I guess I wasn't the only one feeling out of place.

Anyways, ECON101 final was a quick test despite it being two and a half hours long. 45 minutes in and I was finished. Since I couldn't leave for another 15 minutes, I looked at my friend closest to me and decided to draw a sketch of her writing her exam with the clock in the background indicating the real time of the sketch. Then I wrote a short paragraph stating how I would be missing this place and signed my name on the picture before handing it in. The professor took it and looked at the sketch and called me a "good artist". Yeah, I'm good at arts, just not economics.

Later two of my friends decided we should hang out at William's Cafe before bidding farewell when they offered me to go to a party with another friend of mine at V1. I was originally thinking no, but then I thought that it would be good to see them again at this party. To my surprise, they had planned a surprise farewell party for me which totally took me by shock. There was cake, chips, and drinks on the house. It was fun spending the night with my friends and then we hugged each other goodbye. Memorable? Yes.

Tomorrow I will need to pack up and ship out of Waterloo. It will be my final post as well.

Day 201
Sun. Apr. 13, 2014

So I've got all my ARTS111 paper done and now I've got to study for my ECON101 final tomorrow. Instead of studying hardcore, I skimmed my notes and then glanced at the mid-term exam. It's not going to end well for me that's for sure.

Anyways, my mum had arrived from BC to help me pack all my belongings so I can ship it off on Tuesday. So many stuff that I need to pack! I can't believe how much I had saved in terms of supplies. All I could say was that university life was a very frugal life.

Nothing special to report today so I think I'll call it a day and get some good sleep before the final exam tomorrow.

Day 200

Day 200
Sat. Apr. 12, 2014

Day 200 of my logs! This is incredible how I even managed to pull it off despite boring days and days lacking motivation to post. Well I guess I did it...well almost. I've still got a few more days before I wrap up these posts and ship out.

For the next five hours, I spent my time working and researching for my ARTS111 paper. I'm surprised that I even wrote the bare minmum of ten pages and went on into the 11th page. Anyways, the paper lists my career decisions in the world of film. That's where I'm headed after Waterloo...a film school in BC.
Everything looks going as planned except ECON101 final on Monday...great.

Day 199

Day 199
Fri. Apr. 11, 2014

I kind of slept in till noon since there was no apparent pressure on me to do my paper. I did however glance over it and did a few parts before I went my ways to watch some movies.

One thing I did remember about today was that it was April 12 in Australia and I was going to chat up with my Aussie friend and catch up on things. It's been a few weeks since we had contact and there were definitely some highlights worth talking about. We chatted for nearly five hours before she had to resume her schoolwork and it was really really late. The moment I got to my bed, I passed out. I guess ARTS111 will wait till tomorrow.

Day 198

Day 198
Thur. Apr. 10, 2011

Alright, I know that today is a free day to slack off, but I can't due to the fact that I needed to do two essay questions for my take home mid-term exam. So, I sat down and looked over the questions and read over my textbook for more info. After a quick read, I was underway in writing my essay responses. Nonetheless after a focused few hours, I was able to finish it by the end of the night half a day early before it's due. Feeling satisfied, I gave my submission.

Tomorrow I should get started on my ARTS111 papers as well. My parents Skyped me saying that they will arrive on Sunday and may disturb my studies and work. Oh it's going to be a long weekend...

Day 197
Wed. Apr. 9, 2014

GBDA102 final exam! Somehow I am so calm and not even panicking to the thought of this exam. It was in the PAC and we had two and a half hours to do it. I flipped over the exam booklet and quickly did the 20 multiple choice and moved onto to the short answers. I had to choose five out of six and write about it in detail giving relevant examples. While everyone around we so serious and fixed onto their exams, I smiled and grinned as I wrote my responses. It's not the fact that I'm leaving the university and that my marks are going to be irrelevant, but rather the thought of people stressing so hard over an exam when I feel that mostly common sense was used in the short answer sections.

Anyways, I decided to spend my remaining WatCard dollars on food so that I don't waste them. It turns out that I was short on funds and forced to drop and extra food. My final balance was 22 cents which I felt was worth scrapping once I leave here.

Later, my roommate and I went to Mel's Diner where we both order the Elvis burger which was a 1 pound patty. To my surprise, I wasn't able to finish the fries and salad portion, but I took it home for future desserts.
As for tomorrow, I plan to write my two essay questions for my INTST101 take-home exam.

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

Day 196

Day 196
Tues. Apr. 8, 2014

Ok, no more time for slacking and not studying...the exam is tomorrow. I see on Facebook that a lot of my classmates are panicking about the exam while I just briefly skimmed over my textbook and my notes feeling assured that it's not that hard people think it is.

I decided to sleep early today, but couldn't fall asleep so I ended up watching a movie being I got tired. I think I got this exam prepared.

Monday, April 7, 2014

Day 195

Day 195
Mon. Apr. 7, 2014

The first week of school where I don't have to go to school! It's kind of pleasant for a change despite most of my classes are one hour long. Today a read a bit of the GBDA102 textbook going over sections that I figured was going to be on the test. Later, my roommate and I headed over to Curry In A Hurry and looked at the specials. It was some really good food at affordable prices.

One of the highlights was that my girlfriend wanted back in a relationship and apologized for being sidetracked. That was grateful to hear despite a full week thinking about finding someone else. Luckily, I was able to keep myself walking straight despite the temptations especially the ones at Laurier. Man, what's with the girls from Laurier? I don't see much at Waterloo...

Day 194

Day 194
Sun. Apr. 6, 2014

Today was technically supposed to be my studying day for GBDA102 which I eventually spent most the day on the computer playing games and watching movies. I was so not in the mood especially with my current relationship status.

Anyways, stayed in for the majority of the day before I headed out to grab some light food. No highlights to report.

Saturday, April 5, 2014

Day 193

Day 193
Sat. Apr. 5, 2014

What a wild night on Friday. I woke up around ten before my two overnight guests planned to wake up at eleven. Despite being tired, a host should never outsleep its guests because it's our duty. Anyways, I helped my friends pack up and said our goodbyes and wishes for the exams.

The remainder of the day was spent all alone in the house trying to think about my current relationship. I decided that I sing the song Say Something by A Great Big World and perhaps give it to my girlfriend. I figured that was the something most neutral to give her my message via the lyrics. No responses from texts for quite some hours bugged me a lot. I'm kind of tempted to think about the worse…

Oh well, let's see how tomorrow goes.

Friday, April 4, 2014

Day 192

Day 192
Fri. Apr. 4, 2014

Last classes for Year 1 and in Stratford! GBDA102 was an amazing presentation as I kicked it off with my Australian accent to introduce the common stereotypes, Then we continued it with in class interviews, interactivities, and free Tim Tams. Yum!

ECON101 was another presentation on our selected movie "Catch Me If You Can" where we discussed how economics were in play throughout the movie. It was an interesting class because there were no lectures from the instructor.

Party time! Lots of my friends that I invited came over to my farewell party. Lots of drinks and most importantly...free pizzas! One of my GBDA friends brought her boyfriend to crash over at my residence. I cleaned the vacant room and make sure it was in terms of cleanliness and hygienic before they slept there. Almost as if it was a hotel eh? We played lots of card games and then talked about where we would see ourselves in 10 years time. When it came to my turn about the family part, I didn't know how it would turn out seeing my current relationship situation.

Anyways, it was a good party and a good night.

Thursday, April 3, 2014

Day 191

Day 191
Thur. Apr. 3, 2014

I had trouble making up early because I needed to meet with my GBDA102 group to rehearse for presentations tomorrow. Despite yesterday's injuries, I wasn't going to let my group down.

After the meeting was done, I had contacted the hospital to add my health card number. They said that I was going to be billed $250 for ambulance! What could I do? Nothing really because that's how the Canadian health care system worked. I looked at the total costs and loss of time...I had $261 incurred from the expenses which I declined and signed and lost over 8 hours of my personal time all due to my roommate being violent and wanting to hit the Don with the football. Sucks? Of course!

Later my roommate and I went to Valumart to get wings for tomorrow's party. That's probably the only thing I look forward to.

INTST101 was the final class, I handed in my reflections sheet and then we looked over the take-home final exam essay questions. Looks challenging, but with some time and patience, I think I can do it.

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Day 190

Day 190
Wed. Apr. 2, 2014

I woke up a text message from my girlfriend saying that she apologizes that I feel that she doesn't love me as much. She stated that she has been busy with school and picked up a job as well.

ARTS111 was the last final class. It was good while it lasted, but I know what direction I'm headed to. The film industry and some education in motion picture and filmmaking. I still have another take-home exam/paper to do for this class about final action plans for my life and career. I think I can handle it…

After ARTS111 was finished, I quickly headed back to residence for final BBQ gathering. There were sports games playing beside the BBQ and here is what happened. My roommate wanted to hit my residence Don with a football while him and I were in the midst of playing soccer. My high testosterone roommate heaved the football right into the back of my head and knocked me to the ground. Everyone gathered and I was brought to the Don's house. I rested and felt really tired from the hit. They called 411 for assistance which they recommend getting an ambulance. I declined because I feel that there was no need for it. After an hour or so, the Don called campus police which they also brought the ambulance. I signed a decline for ambulance and then later as I was heading back, I felt like vomiting. I got taken aboard the ambulance and sent to Grand Rivers Hospital.

At the hospital, I waited 45 minutes before the nurse came to assess my situation. Three and a half hours later, the doctor finally came and I was assessed of condition. He said that there were no concussions, but I follow a checklist for symptoms. It was really late at night and I was forced to call a taxi to go home. Eleven dollars for the ride back home was going to get on my nerves since I didn't even want to go to the hospital in the first place.

During the time at the hospital, I sat in the bed thinking and wondering how lonely I was. No one was here, a dead cell phone, and no wallet. The wait time was brutal...had it been a serious internal brain injury, I could have sustained a stroke, brain dead, or something horrific. Canadian health care sucks.

Day 189

Day 189
Tues. Apr. 1, 2014

Today's morning was spent doing group presentation practice for GBDA102. Some roles had to be changed and added for the content and time. I got to brush up my Australian accent for my parts and I look forward to presenting on Friday.

There wasn't really much of a highlight today other than the fact that I didn't talk to my girlfriend as often ever since that day. I'm feeling kind of upset, but I think I'll give her some time to fix whatever she is going through.
Later, our residence and another residence headed to Mongolian Grill to get dinner. I ate four plates of meat and then left to meet up with my ResCouncil mates to head to the theatre. There, we watched "The Awkward Moment" and I feel that it was an okay plot. I kind of hate romance movies because it reminds me bits and pieces of my life.
