VC Chapter 13-Tachyon Industries

Sector 1600
Planet 1601
January 21, 2052

“Officers of Northern Base, we have an important new information regarding the VEGA corporation technologies.” Charlie spoke loudly to a room full of officers.
“What is it?” Preez raised his hand.
“Moxness, if you may.” Charlie nodded at the officer seated beside Tarbuck.
“As you are aware already of the Apocrypha's existence in the VEGA's lines of ships, there appears to be a new type of weapon on these ships as well.” Moxness stood up and began to brief.
“Franklin, queue up the battle log we got from Chase's ship.” Charlie nudged the ever so attentive female officer in the room.
“Got it.” Franklin touched the control panel on the hologram desk.
“Here is a playback of this new energy weapon.” Moxness pointed at the centre of the desk as the projection replayed the battle of the Apocrypha and Chase's fleet.
“Looks like something from a mad scientist.” Preez joked as he saw the beams of energy.
“What's that thing and how come we didn't hear about it from the initial intelligence report?” Tarbuck glanced at Wicker.
“Sir, I was only able to get the info about the new ship. Never in their logs did I uncover anything about a new weapon.” Wicker answered firmly without hesitation.
“Does anyone have any idea what this is then?” Stein spoke his thoughts.
“Charlie?” Moxness sat down into his seat comfortably.
“Our intelligence was able to pinpoint the manufacturer of this weapon and point it towards Tachyon Industries. They are a privatized military research facility that nearly went bankrupt a decade ago.” Charlie gave a sheet of briefing paper to the officers as he walked around the room.
“I thought these guys were out of business ever since Solaris Energy Systems took the market with its line of efficient energy weapons.” Tarbuck skimmed the briefing sheet.
“So did we. It appears VEGA is giving it resources to fund for its own research projects.” Owens interrupted.
“What's the game plan?” Stein asked impatiently wanting to skip over the details.
“Since we know the scale of this weapon, we need to get our hands on it if we are going to even the playing field.” Charlie responded as he sat back down in his seat.
“Are you saying...?” Tarbuck began to infer.
“Yes, I'm asking you to break into Tachyon Industries and steal the blueprints of this weapon.” Charlie guessed the answer to Tarbuck's inquiry.
“Are you crazy mate?” Tarbuck widened his eyes.
“Only slightly.” Charlie joked.
“So...what I'm getting out of this is that we are going to breach a very well fortified facility with the potential of VEGA ship guards in order to steal weapon blueprints and then successfully get out alive?” Stein summarized the mission.
“Pretty much.” Charlie nodded with a smile.

“Sweet! I love it!” Stein enthusiastically replied as he cracked his knuckles feeling up to the challenge.
